ANNA VANGILDER

LAMAR-Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Milford Christian Church for Anna Elizabeth (Holt) VanGilder, 98, Lamar, who died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital. Associate Pastor Darrell Doss will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested to Milford Christian Church or TATS, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include three sons, Ray VanGilder and wife Faye, Neal VanGilder and wife Jan and Steve VanGilder and wife Myra; three sisters, Marcella Norton, Margie Fry and Hazel Moore; a daughter-in-law, Patsy VanGilder; nine grandchildren; 26 great and step grandchildren; 22 great-great and step grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Carl Lee VanGilder; an older sister, Jesse Lee and brothers Warren and Dale Holt and two great-grandsons, Scott Allen VanGilder and Ryan VanGilder.

Mrs. VanGilder was born June 20, 1918, to Dennis and Flora (Faurot) Holt. She was a housewife, working on the farm and in the garden. She was an avid bowler and won many trophies from tournament participation. She was a member of the Milford Christian Church.

She was never still – always busy canning, taking care of the pigs, embroidering and cooking up great meals for her family and the hay crew. She was a volunteer at the Lamar Fair, helping with set up at Memorial Hall. She brought home many blue ribbons. She volunteered at Lamar Middle School, teaching students to quilt. Their project was then auctioned as a fundraiser. One student asked if she would be their grandma. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend.

She married Leo Earl VanGilder on Feb. 14, 1938. He died in 2008 after nearly 70 years of marriage.
