Halftime tribute performed by LHS marching band

Lamar Democrat/Chris Morrow The Lamar High School marching band put on another stellar field show at halftime of Friday night's football game. However, this one was even more special than usual. Members of the band acknowledged friends and family who have fought disease and illness. When the public address announcer read off a list of ailments, members of the band raised their hand to signify they knew someone who had fought that particular illness. In some cases it was the students themselves battling these major obstacles. Afterwards they performed the moving display. Here, drum major Carmen Miller leads the group.

The SW Select basketball team ended their season by winning the Kansas State Championship with a record of 21-1 in three tournaments, plus Kansas State. Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger A total of $3600 was raised at the car and jeep show held Saturday, April 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Lamar Christian Church Parking lot, with proceeds to benefit the new Barco Drive-In screen tower. Pictured are, left to right, Lamar Bank & Trust President Pat O’Neal, Barco Drive-In Theatre fundraiser director Landin Myers and representing the Plaza/Barco and Lamar Community Betterment, Scott Kelley. Anyone wishing to donate can do so at the bank, or drop it by the Plaza Theatre on the south side of the square.
