JACK THRASHER

LAMAR-Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home for William Jackson “Jack” Thrasher, 91, Lamar, who died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Truman Healthcare Center, after a battle with cancer. Robb Hodson will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home, prior to the service, beginning at 2 p.m.

Contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center or First Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Ewers and husband David, Lamar; one brother, John Thrasher, California; one granddaughter, Amanda Burr and husband Chris, Irwin; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Desirae Burr; many nieces and nephews; Bill and Patricia Nixon, who he considered the son he never had and a close friend, Elaine Reynolds.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Dave, Paul, Marion, Doug and Frank Thrasher and one sister, Anna Mae Rock.

Mr. Thrasher was born April 16, 1925, in Gravette, Ark., to Eddie Carl and Myra Gertrude (Jesse) Thrasher. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Just five days after being discharged from the Army, he married Viola Higgins on Sept. 15, 1945, in Girard, Kan., and together they had one daughter. His wife died Feb. 27, 2015, after nearly 70 years of marriage.

Mr. Thrasher had worked at Thorco for over 40 years and was a supervisor of the Jigs and Samples Department for many years. He was a member of Lamar First Baptist Church. He loved woodworking, building things for family members. He was known as a hard worker and he and his wife loved to go shopping and going to Branson to watch many different shows over the years. He was also a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
