Clark Cayton, representing Life Choices of the Health Network, based in Joplin, was the featured speaker at the 2017 Memorial Rally for Life, January 22, in Lamar. He stressed the negative impact on children being raised in fatherless households. Cayton said, as a group, such children are poor achievers in school. He added that many grow up to be contributors to high crime rates. Representative Mike Kelley said House Resolution 18, currently being considered in the General Assembly, states that “life begins at conception,” and if passed by both houses and approved by voters, could become a part of the state constitution. State Senator Ed Emery commented that the struggle against abortion can only be won through the help of the clergy. Approximately 85 persons attended the rally in Memorial Hall.
