FRANZ H. PENNER

RURAL LAMAR- A graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Faith Evangelical Bible Cemetery, near Henderson, Neb., for Franz H. Penner, 89, rural Lamar, who died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at his home, following an illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.

Survivors include two sons, David Penner and wife Chi, Omaha, Neb. and Doug Penner and wife Tina, Lamar; four daughters, Mary Jane Henrichson, Lincoln, Neb., Darleen Connelly and husband John, Barranquilla, Colombia, Martha June Myles, Omaha, Neb. and Katharina Penner, Lamar; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Penner was born Oct. 3, 1927, in Lushton, Neb., to Franz F. and Katharina (Harder) Penner. After graduating from Lushton High School in 1948, he attended the Unvirsity of Nebraska for two years. A life-long farmer, he moved to St. Ann in 1967. In 1980, he purchased a farm near Lamar in Barton County, raising crops and livestock until retiring due to declining health. He had an interest in government and social issues and was active in the Barton County Democratic Party. He served on the Union Township Board for 16 years and was a member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church.
