LAMAR- Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home for LaVerne Florence Mason, 77, Lamar, who died Thursday evening, June 1, 2017, of an apparent heart attack, while vacationing with family in Florida. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Truman Healthcare Activities Fund.

Survivors include her children, Diane Heggen and husband Marty, Colville, Wash., Randy Mason and wife Donna, Lamar, Vicky Bailey and husband Jim, Jacksonville, Fla. and Pam Stephens and husband Corky, Lamar; a brother, Don Wiseman and wife Barbara, Portland, Ore.; a sister, Deloris Shaw and husband Bob, Gresham, Ore.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 45 years, Harlan Mason, who died in April 16, 2003.

Mrs. Mason was born Dec. 27, 1939, in Portland, Ore., to Bill and Dorothy (Cheatham) Wiseman. She married Harlan A. Mason on Nov. 15, 1958, at Stevenson, Wash. and they lived in several states before settling in Barton County in 1970. In addition to being a devoted wife and dedicated mother, she pursued and achieved her goal of becoming a nurse, earning certifications as a Licensed Practical Nurse. A natural and compassionate caregiver, she was gifted in geriatrics and provided comfort to nursing home residents in Lamar for more than 30 years. In retirement, she mostly enjoyed time spent with family, the fellowship of friends and watching the birds she diligently fed all year round.
