LEBANON- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holman-Howe Funeral Home for Marilyn Louise Huckaby Broyles, 82, Lebanon, who died Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, in Springfield. Burial will be in the Hough Chapel Cemetery.

Memorial donations to the Round Prairie Cemetery may be made to Holman-Howe Funeral Home, P.O. Box 28, Lebanon, MO 65536.

She married James Russell Broyles on July 7, 1968 and they had shared the last 49 years together. He survives of the home. Other survivors include a niece, Brenda; a nephew, Mark and children; a niece-in-law, Lynn and children; a sister-in-law, Betty Kinnett and her children, Doug and Marty, Dwight and Lynn and Teresa and George and their children, as well as a host of other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Jean Baughman; a nephew, Mike Baughman and a brother-in-law, Tom Kinnett.

Mrs. Broyles was born Jan. 10, 1935, near Lamar, to Ernest and Helen Cathleen (Purdy) Huckaby. She started school at the age of five and skipped two grades. She finished high school at the age of 16 and attended college for one year and a summer. She then began teaching in Barton and Jasper counties. She finished her Associates Degree in 1954 from Southwest Baptist College and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Southwest Missouri State University. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Drury College.

She began teaching in the Independence Public Schools in Independence, Mo. in 1956 and continued to teach second grade until retiring in 1985. Once retired, she and her husband moved back to Lebanon.

She joined the Harmony Baptist Church in Barton County.
