The above honoree, Cpl. Oliver A. Metzger, father of Lamar Democrat’s Melody Metzger, served his country from September 1941 to December 1945. He was a member of the United States Army. His brother, William Metzger, was killed during World War 2 and a banner in his honor flies in their hometown of Highland, Ill.
