JASPER- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Weng Funeral Chapel in Jasper for Carl J. Jones, 84, Jasper, who died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at Joplin Mercy Hospital. Burial will be in Waters Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Bessie; his children, Carolyn Dye, Independence, Debbie Nelson, Belton, Ronnie Jones, Lexington, Carl Joe Jones, Willing, Carla Kay Schieber, Lexington, Bob Jones, Crescent City, Calif., Kay Carter, Jasper, Dale Carter, Lamar, Doug Carter, Diamond, Jenica Carter Rush, Frisco, Texas and Jessica Carter, Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, Bob Jones, Vancouver, Wash.; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Mr. Jones was born April 22, 1933, in Nevada, Mo., to Otis Carl and Leona (Quall) Jones. He was co-owner and operator of Judy’s Cafe and Truck Stop in Jasper. Throughout his life he enjoyed truck driving and farming.

He was most passionate about music. He played numerous instruments and enjoyed singing. He excelled at the fiddle and was the founder of Carl Jones and the Kendricktown Playboys band. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Masonic Lodge, Shriner’s, Elks Lodge and the VFW. He was an Army veteran during the Korean War.

He married Bessie Taffner on July 25, 1970.
