Voice of Democracy essay winners were honored, December 10, by the VFW. Pictured, left to right, Senior Vice Commander Merdith Chapman; first place winner Halee Doss, $75 award; second place Hannah Lee, $50 award; third place Kendall J. Krueth, $40 award; Quartermaster Tom Reed. Voice of Democracy participants are in grades 9-12, and wrote on the theme of “My Vision for America.”

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Lamar Elks Lodge No. 2800 recently donated $1,000 to the Famous Missouri Veterans Monument, to be erected at the Barton County Memorial Park, located on the corner of 2nd and Gulf, in Lamar. The monument will recognize veterans that made a significant difference while serving in the armed services.
