LOCKWOOD- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood for Lorine Doris Jean Backs, 85, Lockwood, who died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Burial will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Meinert.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lockwood Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School in Lockwood, Lutheran Church in Lincoln or to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Lincoln.

Survivors include her husband, Willard Backs, Lockwood; two sons, Larry Backs and wife Susan, Overland Park, Kan. and Ronnie Backs and wife Teresa, Lockwood; four grandchildren, Kristen Backs, Republic, Jordan Backs, Lockwood, Ryan Backs and wife Meagan, Fayetteville, Ark. and Caroline Backs, Overland Park, Kan. and four cousins, Olga Wienberg, Lela Miesner, Bob Wischmeier and Carol Lumpe.

Mrs. Backs was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Lincoln, to Clarence and Sidonia (Kunolt) Kreissler. She was baptized on Jan. 1, 1933, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln and was also confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 and attended nursing training at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

She was a wonderful homemaker and also worked as a dedicated hospice caregiver for many years, a role she found great joy in serving others. She was an avid gardener and known by many for sending greeting cards. She was honored as Woman of the Year by the Lockwood Business and Professional Women. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lockwood, as well as the Lutheran Women Missionary League, Immanuel Lutheran Braille Center and the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility Auxiliary.

She married Willard R. Backs on Nov. 5, 1955, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln.
