ONA MAE WINSHIP

LIBERAL- Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Liberal City Cemetery for Ona Mae Winship, 91, formerly of Liberal, who died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018. Rev. Bob Dickey will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home, Lamar.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Thompson and wife Millie, Kingman, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Justin Thompson, James Thompson, Jesse Thompson, Kelsey Thompson and Naporscha Thompson; a brother, Jack Miller, Derby, Kan. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Alan Winship; three brothers, Bob, Chuck and Larry Miller and a sister, Dorothy Richards.

Mrs. Winship was born April 9, 1927, to Walter James and Minnie Belle (Sherron) Miller, at the home of her maternal grandparents, Jim and Pearl Sherron, near Jerico Springs. She lived most of her life in Barton County, with the exception of four years of her childhood when her family moved to the state of California.

She was a homemaker and a lifetime caregiver to those in need. Her wit and memories led her to be a columnist for The Liberal News titled, “On My Mind” and “Thinking Back”.

She married Raymond E. Thompson in 1947 and to this union one son, Jerry Allen, was born. Her husband died in April of 1951. In 1961, she married John E. Winship and they had one son, John Alan. Mr. Winship died in February of 1973.
