LOCKWOOD- Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Iantha Cemetery for Dorris Pauline Mayfield, 91, Lockwood, who died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at Good Shepherd Community Care in Lockwood.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Contributions are suggested to OATS, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one brother Dr. Donald Mayfield, Springdale, Ark; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Mayfield, Belton and Jane Mayfield, Lamar and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincil Mayfield in June 2018 and Howard Mayfield in 1999.

Ms. Mayfield was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Bronaugh to Gilbert Harold and Ida Mable (Sisseck) Mayfield. She was a 1945 graduate of Liberal High School. After graduating she moved to Kansas City, Mo., whee she attended Dickinson Secretarial College and St. Teresa College. In 1956 she took a job with the Central Intelligence Agency as an Intelligence Analyst and was assigned to United States Embassies in Sudan, Egypt, Taiwan, Korea, South Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Hong Kong, Ethiopia and Chicago. After retiring from the CIA in 1986, she lived in Florida for 10 years until returning to Kansas City, where she worked as a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital Historical Archives.

In 2000, she returned to Liberal and later to Lamar, where she was active as the treasurer for the local OATS Bus organization. She was reared as a Baptist and loved her cats, which she considered her children.
