Lamar Democrat/Richard Cooper Family and friends gathered in the Barton County Circuit Courtroom at 10 a.m., Monday morning, December 31, to witness the swearing in of county office holders whose terms would begin the following day. Three of the six were beginning their first terms in office. Pictured left to right, Mike Davis, Presiding Commissioner; Lisa Cunningham, Recorder of Deeds (first term); James Nichols, Associate Circuit Judge; Melinda Maberry, Clerk of the Circuit Court (first term); Mike Smalley, Prosecuting Attorney (first term); and Kristina Crockett, County Clerk.

Lamar Democrat/Melody Metzger The Barton County Community Foundation featured Vintage Vegas on Saturday evening, April 13, at Thiebaud Auditorium in Lamar. During the festivities, Elaine Davis, left, president of Lamar Community Betterment, was awarded $1M from a private charitable fund, in order to purchase the old Redneck building at 1705 Gulf. The building will be used jointly by the newly formed Lamar YMCA and the Lamar R-1 School. Watch for more information in the April 24 edition of the Democrat. BCCF board member Nancy Curless, right, presented Davis with the check, along with a $5,000 check from the foundation.
