KANSAS CITY, Mo.- Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home in Gladstone, for Betty Jean Adams, 93, who died Friday, June 21, 2019, in Kansas City, Mo., surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, July 1, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield. Burial will follow at Springfield Veterans Cemetery.

Survivors include her four children, Karen Sue Calnan and husband Craig, Kansas City, Mo., John Mark Adams and wife Nancy, Lamar; Rebecca Ann Boaz and husband Karl, Colorado Springs, Colo. and Nancy Jean Rivers and husband Robert, Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Amy Augustine, Allison VanDaGriff, Emily Adams, Tyler Martin, Samuel Martin, Connor Rivers and Clare Rivers and four great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Gerald Ray “Bud” Bowersox and her husband, Hugh.

Mrs. Adams was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Breckenridge, to Horace Ray and Beulah Evelyn (Dickey) Bowersox. She graduated from Hamilton (Mo.) High School and moved to Kansas City where she took a job at City National Bank. A blind date with fellow employee Hugh Emerson Adams resulted in 62 years of happiness. After their wedding on March 16, 1946 (also in Kansas City), they resided in Lenexa, Ellsworth and Salina, Kan. for his career.

Mrs. Adams was a devoted homemaker and mother with a sharp wit and a keen eye for fashion. After her husband’s death in 2008, her last years were spent in Springfield and Kansas City, Mo., residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Rivers.
