Mrs. Johnston was born May 26, 1940, in Eldorado, Kan., to Roger Phil and Blanche Alleen (Morgan) Mollohan. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked many years at the Nevada (Mo.) State Hospital with mentally and developmentally disabled individuals. She later served as a Parish Nurse for the Lamar (Mo.) United Methodist Church. She was a member of Barton County Arts Council, Red Hats Society and was an Honorary Member of the Lamar Elks Lodge. She was a member of Lamar (Mo.) United Methodist Church before moving to be with her daughter, where her membership was at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ithaca.

She loved the outdoors, dancing and her church family. She was passionate about providing support for individuals in need. After retiring she continued to work part-time with disabled individuals and found great pleasure in being a friend and help mate. She was funny and big hearted. Her last several years were marked by progressive dementia, yet she remained remarkably aware of her situation. Her grace, tolerance and tenacity throughout touched her many aides and all who crossed her path.

She married William P. Johnston in Denver, Colo., on Oct. 21, 1961. He preceded her in death.
