JOHN CHARLES GASTEL

JASPER- A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Daniel Funeral Home and Chapel in Lamar, for John Charles Gastel, 73, Jasper, who died Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., after a short illness.
Contributions can be made payable to the Dorothy Andrews Gastel Memorial Teachers Scholarship at Pittsburg State University or the Zero-The End of Prostate Cancer fund, in care of the funeral home.
All arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.

Survivors include five daughters, Amy Atnip and husband Carl, Carthage, Lori Gastel, Webb City, Julie Lambert and husband John, Portland, Ore., Lisa Gastel, Kansas City, Mo. and Sara Gastel-Roth and husband Courtney, Webb City; six grandchildren, Kieran, Eva, Brady, Lincoln, Rowan and Roddy; brothers, David Gene Gastel and wife Sharon, Rocklin, Calif. and Robert Gastel, Sand Springs, Okla.; a sister, Mary Passmore and husband Jim, Elk City, Idaho; brothers-in-law, Jeff Galitz, Grayslake, Ill. and Bill McClintock and wife Sandra, Naperville, Ill.; friend, Robert Koontz and family, Golden City; lifelong friend, Denny Hartley, Carthage, along with extended family and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nina Galitz and Ruth Nowlin; a brother-in-law, Larry Nowlin and a sister-in-law, Carol Gastel.
Mr. Gastel was born July 21, 1946, to Gene and Dorothy (Andrews) Gastel. He was a 1964 graduate of Jasper High School. He was a lifelong farmer for over 65 years in the Jasper and Lamar area.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to see movies and shows in Branson. He also enjoyed playing golf and one highlight was a hole-in-one shot at the Carthage Golf Course.
He married Sue Ann McClintock on Dec. 9, 1967, in Lamar. They were married 40 years. She preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 2008.
