Much sentimentality is tied to Barton County Memorial Hospital, as generation after generation were born there, had surgeries, worked there and oftentimes had loved ones die there. It is with a heavy heart but practical mind to realize that the building was becoming an eyesore and needed to be razed. After many back and forth conversations with the Cox Barton County Hospital and the Barton County Commissioners, what was necessary became a reality. Remco Demolition LLC, out of Kansas City, Mo., was the lowest of six bids turned into the commission and the actual demolition began on Monday, Sept. 16. Once the grounds are cleared plans are being made to make it some type of Memorial Park, dedicated to the veterans that the original hospital recognized back in 1949, when it was built as a tribute to the 69 Barton County men who died in WWII.
