ELBERT ORAHOOD

LAMAR-Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home Chapel for Elbert Lee Orahood, 84, Lamar, who died Friday evening, Aug. 21, 2015, at Barton County Memorial Hospital. Pastor Leon Bishop officiated. A private burial will be in Lake Cemetery.

Survivors include two stepchildren, Dwayne Jones and Janice Orahood, both of Lamar; a sister, Luella Hennings and husband Ron, Wichita, Kan., and a sister-in-law, Mary Orahood, Neosho; seven grandchildren, John Orahood, Jennifer Sanden, Michael Jones, Kevin Orahood, Terrelyn Watts, Richard Jones and Mark Jones; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Orahood was born July 3, 1931, in Boston, Mo., to William J and Lora Lee (Lewis) Orahood. He was one of eight children, including three brothers, Dan, John and Vern Orahood and four sisters, Valda, Luella, Leora and Lavina, He worked for Lawnboy, as a quality control inspector, making sure that the Lawnboy product lived up to its reputation. After Lawnboy he worked for O'Sullivan Industries until his retirement. For many years, and even after retirement, he had his own business repairing small engines and lawn mowers. When he wasn't working he could be found at Lamar Lake or up on the Muddy Creek dam, with a couple of poles and bobbers in the water.

He married Lena Bernease Williams on Oct. 19, 1963, in Lamar, at the home of Preach Haddock. She died June 27, 1998.
