Earlier this fall the Liberal R-2 School District suffered a terrible blow when a fire claimed the old high school and the elementary gymnasium. Last week, Arvest Bank helped come to the rescue by providing the district with a check for $5,000 to replace some of what was lost, including physical education equipment, as well as a host of other items. Here Doug Phipps, commercial banker from Arvest in Lamar, presents Liberal Superintendent of Schools Bill Harvey with a check. Also pictured is Leva Richmond (left), a branch manager from the bank in Nevada, and Rebecca Dunham. Dunham is the sales manager for the Joplin area. Also pictured are a group of first graders from Liberal Elementary.
