ILETA VIOLA ARMSTRONG

PAOLA, Kan.- A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Friday, at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, for Ileta Viola Armstrong, 84, Paola, who died Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, at Lifecare Center of Osawatomie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Paola Christian Church, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 430, Osawatomie, Kan. 66064.

Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Fred, of the home; daughter Lois Christine Yackle and husband Gary Lee, Frontenac; five grandchildren, Christopher Yackle and Christy Lewis, Ileta Stemrich, Michael Armstrong and wife Trish, Jeffrey Armstrong and Kathleen Deason and husband Jeremy; 10 great-grandchildren, Daniel, Dahana, Bryar, Ashtin, Kaiden, Maysen, Ethan, Jack, Kelly and Freddie and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Wayne Armstrong and siblings, Olan William “Chuck” Evans and Fernitta Hamby.

Mrs. Armstrong was born April 7, 1935, in Floy, Mo., to William Lee and Reba Lucille (Hagins) Evans. She grew up around Lamar, Mo.

At the age of 14, she married Fred John Armstrong Jr. in Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 23, 1950. They made their home in various places around the Kansas City area until 1980 when they moved to Paola. Together the couple had two children, Lois Christine and Gary Wayne.

She worked at Jen-Sal veterinary medicine company and the Internal Revenue Service. Most of her life though she worked as a homemaker.

In her free time she loved playing volleyball and quilting. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her chocolate chip cookies and strawberry shortcake. She could cook a full meal with what she had and quickly. She played piano for her church for a number of years. Her favorite colors were turquoise and purple. She was a member of the Paola Christian Church.
