JOHN WILLIAM HOENSHELL
ELK CITY, Okla.- Arrangements are under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart, for John William "Bill" Hoenshell, 79, who died Saturday, May 9, 2020, in Elk City.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children, 3800 North May, Oklahoma City, OK 73112.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Carol Ann Hoenshell, Hobart; three children, Scott Douglas Hoenshell and wife Shirley, Carthage, Mo., Crystal Van and husband Greg, Colorado City, Colo. and Jeff Hoenshell and wife Shelly, Mountain View; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and many extended church families of whom he had the opportunity to serve.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vernadine Poindexter.
Mr. Hoenshell was born May 10, 1940, in Carthage, Mo., to Vernon and Nadine (Jones) Hoenshell. He graduated from Jasper (Mo.) High School in 1958. He married Carol Ann Worley on June 5, 1959, in Jasper, Mo. At the age of 26, he was called to the ministry and was ordained July 11, 1971, at Zion Baptist Church in Jasper, Mo.
He was president of the Carving Club in Pueblo, Colo. He worked at the Hobart Living Center for 15 years and had previously pastored at Zion Baptist Church in Jasper, Mo., Lone Wolf First Baptist Church in Lone Wolf, Greenhorn Valley Baptist Church in Rye, Colo. and Gotebo First Baptist Church from 2010 to the present.
