The Barton County Chamber of Commerce held its quarterly meeting at 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, at the Lamar City Park. The theme for the meeting centered around e-commerce, which consists of commercial transactions conducted electronically on the internet. The discussion was led by Joplin Chamber of Commerce Director Toby Teeter, who gave an in-depth explanation of what e-commerce is and explained how it can help individuals make a living while staying in their own community. There is a meeting of entrepreneurs that use e-commerce held once a month in Joplin and Teeter hopes to branch out into outlying communities as well. The event was sponsored by Hospice Compassus.
