GARY LEE TONEY

LIBERAL- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar for Gary Lee Toney, 84, Liberal, who died at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2020, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Lamar, where he had been a resident for 10 days.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
The family suggests contributions to Avalon Hospice or the Mulberry Holiness Church building fund, to be made in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Toney of the home; a daughter, Michelle Desorbo and husband Jim, Kennesaw, Ga.; two sons, Mike Toney and wife Angie, Springdale, Ark. and Jason Toney, Tampa, Fla.: four granddaughters, Elissa Toney, Farmington, Ark., Allison Desorbo, Kenneshaw, Ga., Caroline Desorbo, Ormond Beach, Fla. and Sarah Toney, Springdale, Ark.; one grandson, John Michael Toney, Springdale, Ark. and two sisters, Judy Roberts (Dee) and Joni Toney, Coffeyville, Kan.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marcia Eckert; a brother, Terry Toney and a son, John Toney.
Mr. Toney was born October 12, 1935, in Coffeyville, Kan., to Chester Levi Toney and Arnita Cherokee (Knight) Toney. He was a 1953 graduate of Coffeyville High School. He attended the University of Missouri on a four year football scholarship and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture.
He married Betty Rae Wiggins in 1955 and four children were born to this union. She died in 1988. He married Mary Sue Henegar in 1997, in Mulberry, Kan.
Mr. Toney’s working years included selling insurance and over the road trucking. He spent 18 years working for Compton Farms, retiring at 80. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed golf, baseball and football.
