CARTHAGE- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home in Lamar for Joan (Griffith) Garrett, 80, who died. Burial will follow at Paradise Cemetery.

Family and friends are encouraged to visit Konantz Warden Funeral Home on Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.  The family will receive visitors from 5 p.m to 7 pm.

Masks and hand sanitizer will be available. You are encouraged to visit at your comfort level. You are welcome to come inside but there will also be a memorial book outside, under the covered porch on the north side of the building, on Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., for those who would like to pay their respect with less contact. 

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Joan Garrett Music Scholarship Fund, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include her husband, Stanley and her three children, Mike Garrett and wife Leigh Anne, Oronogo, Randy Garrett and wife Debra, Lamar and Tresa Maneval and husband Mark, Jasper; grandchildren, Josh Garrett and wife Andi, Elaina Bottles, Alex Gibson and husband Pierce, Evan Garrett and Caitlyn Garrett; five great-grandchildren and a brother, Larry Griffith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, a baby brother and a sister, Beverly Capps.

Mrs. Garrett was born in September of 1940 to J.D. and Audrey Griffith. She was raised in Carthage and graduated from Carthage High School. She married Stanley Garrett in 1959 and together they raised three children, Mike, Randy and Tresa. They were members of the Old Salem Church and Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she played the piano every Sunday morning. Music was a big part of her life. She gave piano lessons, accompanied many school solos and ensemble and played for countless weddings over the years. She began working at the First Baptist Church Learning Center in the early 80’s. She lovingly care for hundreds of children like they were her own. After more than 23 years of faithful service, she retired from the Learning Center.
