LIBERAL- Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Barton City Cemetery in Liberal for Ronald Eugene Charlton, 82, Liberal, who died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the March of Dimes in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife Barbara; two sons, Mark Charlton, Liberal and Jay Charlton, Pittsburg, Kan.; four grandchildren, Matt Charlton and wife Debre’, John Charlton and wife Trinity, Roqhelle Cobb and husband Jim and George Charlton and seven great-grandchildren, Zoey, George, Jaelynn, Caliger, Tannen, Ayla and Zach. Mr. Charlton was the middle child of three boys and is also survived by his brothers, James Charlton and Gary Charlton and several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dougie Charlton.

Mr. Charlton was born November 3, 1937 in Liberal, to Archie Charlton and Blossom (Cunninham) Charlton. He graduated from Liberal High School in the class of 1955, followed by two years at what is now Pittsburg State University. He married Barbara Brooks on Jan. 25, 1958, in Miami, Okla.

He and his wife moved to Wichita, Kan. in 1958, where he worked at Beach Aircraft until they moved back to Liberal in 1960 and purchased the farm on which he resided and ran until his death. On his return to Liberal, he farmed and raised cattle, in addition to working at Lawn-Boy, followed by Mackie Coal Mine, where he retired in the late 1990's.

Mr. Charlton enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading and many trips over the years with his sweetheart, friends and family. He enjoyed time with family, especially time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a Mason and was a member and elder of the Christian Church of Liberal, where he also taught Sunday school and nothing made him happier than having a new soul brought to Christ. He rarely missed morning coffee with good friends at Mary's Flower Cart Cafe in Liberal.
