RALPH SHIFLETT

BOSTON, Mo.- Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Waters Cemetery in Jasper for Ralph Raymond Shiflett, 86, Boston, Mo., who died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home, Lamar.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty; two sons, Albert and Alan; two daughters, Rosalie and Kathleen; four grandchildren, Dusty, Mike, Alex and Cassandra and three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Holly and Everett and his sister, Florence Wilson and her family.

Mr. Shiflett was born Sept. 7, 1934, in Kenoma, to John and Zelma (Burch) Shiflett. He moved at the age of three to Boston, Mo., where he was raised with his sister, Florence. He attended and graduated from Boston schools.

After eighth grade he worked for the Garner family and the Gastle family on their farms. He worked for the MFA in Jasper, where he got the desire to drive a truck. At a young age he came to Kansas City, Mo. to work for Bruce Milling Company as a truck driver. He was then called to serve his country in the United States Army and upon his return he worked over 30 years for Inerpace Lock Joint Pipe. He logged over four million miles behind the wheel of a truck. There was nothing he could not do. He was proprietor of Ralph Small Engine in Shawnee, Kan. and spent 15 years at Deffenbaugh as a truck mechanic and later shop supervisor until his retirement.

He and his wife moved back to Boston, Mo., after his retirement and lived in the farm house and property he grew up on. He accepted a job with Lamar Parks and Recreation and worked there for four years before permanently retiring. He was a proud member of Shawnee Masonic Lodge #54, Northeast Valley of the Scottish Rite, York Rite of Kansas City and Abdallah Shrine.

Mr. Shiflett will be remembered for his knowledge and his ability as a man that could do anything and repair anything proficiently, his wit and sense of humor, teaching his children and grandchildren what he could to assist them in their life's journey. He very much loved and cared for his family and will be truly missed.
