SPRINGFIELD- A memorial will be held at a later date to celebrate the life of Ralph Eugene Zimmerman II, 71, who died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, at Cox South Springfield, from cardiac arrest and COVID-19 complications. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Golden City.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gorman Scharpf Funeral Home, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dream Network, P.O. Box 14911, Springfield, MO 65814.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Connie Gideon-Zimmerman; two daughters, Carla Stanton and husband Richard, Webb City and Jessica Zimmerman Selvidge and husband Bryan, Springfield; a son, Carl Zimmerman, Decatur, Ill.; grandchildren, Drew Zimmerman and Andi Stanton, Cody and Brooke Zimmerman; siblings, Carol Powell and husband Charlie, Gary Zimmerman and wife Diane, Carita Heseman and husband Tom, Craig Zimmerman and wife Cindy and Joy Stafford and husband Matt; a brother-in-law, David Gideon and wife Kay; his beloved mother-in-law, Betty Gideon and former daughter-in-law, Cathy Rogers. He is also survived by numerous family members, co-workers and dear friends. He will be missed by all that knew him including his dog pal Mr. Mugsy.

Mr. Zimmerman was born August 31, 1949 to Carita (Smith) and Ralph Eugene Zimmerman I, both deceased. He grew up in the Joplin area, graduating from Joplin High School in 1968 and Missouri Southern State University in 1974. He had a long career with Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company beginning in 1989. He was respected for his dedication to customer support and care. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Mr. Zimmerman was a gentle, kind and humorous man of strong faith. He was an old fashioned "family" man, loving his family most of all.
