LAMAR- Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lamar First Baptist Church for George Edward Sheat, 84, Lamar, who died Monday, Dec. 2020, with his family by his side. A private family burial will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

To honor the family, they ask that everyone in attendance wear a mask.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Barton County Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Sheat and wife Cheryl and Chris Sheat and wife Dana, all of Lamar; two daughters, Brenda McKay and husband Tom, Jasper and Teresa Foster and husband Russell, Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, David Sheat Jr. and wife Joan, Lamar; two sisters, Betty Lou Benedict and husband Glen, Nampa, Idaho and Norma Walker, Lamar; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two brothers-in-law, Bill Bass, Kansas City, Mo. and Marvin McCollough, Lamar and a sister-in-law, Martha Bass, Girard, Kan.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Reba McCollough and three brothers-in-law, Tom Bass, Mike Bass and Sam Walker.

Mr. Sheat was born April 19, 1936, in Lamar, to David William "DW" Sheat and Bessie Mae (Collins) Sheat. He graduated from Lamar High School in the class of 1954. On July 28, 1957, he married Patricia Sue Bass in Lamar and she passed on May 4 of this year.

He was a farmer, a member of the Liberal Athletic Booster Club, a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Liberal, as well as the First Baptist Church in Lamar. He had been a school bus driver, a Young Farmers Member, where he helped with their tractor pulls. He was a board member of Barton County Farmers COOP, enjoyed hunting and fishing and participating in tractor pulling, having won several trophies over the years. He loved playing pitch and going to the Barton County Senior Center with his wife and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids and great grandkids. He was always pulling pranks and quick to laugh... no wait… chuckle and was always fun to be around.
