MINDENMINES- The family will hold a memorial service at a later date for Ronald Merl James, 83, Mindenmines, who died at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, following an illness.

He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, Kan., for cremation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nashville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Will James and wife Denise, Mindenmines; one daughter, Donita James, Nashville, Mo.; one sister, Wilma Swadley, Nashville, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Eric Miller and wife Rachel, Wade Miller and wife Rachel, Amanda Miller, Elise James, Clarise James, Cora James and Veronica James and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and one infant son, Matthew James.

Mr. James was born May 11, 1937, in Nashville, Mo., to Merl and Pauline (Cotter) James. He had lived in the area most of his life.

He was a farmer and was a member of Nashville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and for a period of time worked as a guide and ranch hand at a dude ranch in Montana.

He married Betty Luan Still on Feb. 28, 1956, in Nashville, Mo. She preceded him in death.
