ALTAMONT, Kan.- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Altamont for George John Kibler, 61, a longtime Altamont resident who died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 31, 2021, at Woodridge Estates in Parsons. Burial will be held at a later date at Lake Cemetery in Lamar, Mo.

Friends may stop by the church to sign the register from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home and can be viewed live on the funeral home’s Facebook page.

For all events, social distancing guidelines will be followed, including the requirement of face masks.

Memorials are suggested to Gift of Love Christmas Basket Fund, and may be left at or sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.

Survivors include a sister, Cathy Kibler and Clarence White, rural Altamont; a sister-in-law, Jean Magers, Peculiar, Mo.; a great-niece, Samantha McClelland and a great-nephew, Kameron White.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chris Magers.

Mr. Kibler was born Dec. 24, 1959, in Lamar, Mo., to Clifford Dale and Archalyn Irene (Jenkins) Kibler. He moved with his family to Altamont as a small boy, where he grew up and attended school. He was a 1978 graduate of Labette County High School.

After high school, he attended Labette Community College for a time. He then began a management career in the fast food restaurant industry, managing McDonald’s and Hardee’s restaurants throughout the state of Kansas.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Altamont and enjoyed being involved in the Altamont community and helping others. For over 25 years he served on the Flag Day committee. He also served as president of the Altamont Recreation Commission and the Senior Citizens Center. In 1998, he started Gift of Love Christmas baskets for Altamont families and had also been active in the New Life Clothing store over the years. He enjoyed flower gardening, bowling and playing bingo.
