GAILAND JOHNSTON

LAMAR- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Daniel Funeral Home for Gailand Wayne “G.W.” Johnston, 93, Lamar, who died Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Cox Barton County Hospital. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Barton County Senior Center, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Gailand Johnston and wife Bonnie, Lamar; two daughters, Patty Batcheler, Lamar and Lisa McAtee and husband Randy, Girard, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one more to arrive in April and three sisters, Maxine Francis, Lamar, Thelma Lehman and husband Roy, Lamar and Connie Taylor and husband Bud, Kearney.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; a daughter, Tina Clemons; a son-in-law, Dennis Batcheler and four brothers, Dean, Don, Bud and Gary Johnston.

Mr. Johnston was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Pryor, Okla., to Audi and Mae (Madole) Johnston. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Nevada from 1945 until 1947. On February 19, 1951, he married Evelyn Loveall. They were married 68 years when she died in 2019.

He farmed and raised livestock, followed by many years of livestock hauling for farmers throughout the Four State area. He enjoyed blue grass music, especially when the Johnston family played at family gatherings. He was also a Baptist.
