LIBERAL- Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Liberal City Cemetery for Earl Lee Rogers, 90, Liberal, who died Saturday, April 3, 2021.

Arrangements are under the direction of Konantz Warden Funeral Home, Lamar.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday) at the funeral home.

Survivors include a daughter, Denise Charlton, Liberal; a son, Douglas Rogers, Liberal; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Sandra Jo McCann and husband Warren, Arcadia, Kan.; a brother-in- law, Carl Venable and wife Pat, Liberal; sisters-in-law, Sandy Porter and husband Lee, Liberal, Betty Turner, Liberal, Vivian Duke and husband Riley, Olathe, Kan. and Joan Ethington and husband Harold, Independence and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Daniel Rogers and a brother, Jack Rogers.

Mr. Rogers was born Feb. 16, 1931, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, to Harold and Esther (Carlson) Rogers. When his father got sick he stepped up and took over the family trucking business, running it and expanding it during this time. He drove trucks in Iowa and Kansas and also drove during the wheat harvest.

He was a 1949 graduate of Liberal High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954.

After he left the Navy he went to college and earned his degree in mechanics. He worked for Jim’s One Stop and then went on to own a DX Station in Liberal. He was also a farmer.

He married Glenna (Venable) Rogers on October 13, 1952. Together they enjoyed family trips to Branson and attending ship reunions with seamen who had served on Naval ships with him. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved children and had a special affinity with animals, especially dogs.
