DWIGHT “SKEETER” GASTEL

GOLDEN CITY- Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for Dwight “Skeeter” Edward Gastel, 74, who died Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; sons, Rick Gastel and wife Tammie, Lockwood, Brad Gastel and wife Amber, Dewey, Okla. and Brian Gastel, Jasper; 10 grandchildren; his siblings, Doris Little and husband Ray, Lamar, Janet Diggs and husband Steve, Lamar, Kenny Gastel and wife Arvilla, Rock Island, Ill. and James Gastel and wife Jeannie, Jasper; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Gastel, Lamar, Ellen Gastel, Washington and Judy Gastel, Lamar and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Keith Gastel, Richard Gastel and Gary Gastel.

Mr. Gastel was born Jan. 16, 1947, in Lamar, to Leonard and Gladys (Patterson) Gastel. He was a 1965 graduate of Jasper High School and after graduation went to work building Highway 71 with Clarkson Construction. He then moved to Kansas City, worked construction and joined the National Guard, where he served until he was called into active duty. While serving, he earned many medals and awards. Upon his return to Kansas City he worked on construction projects including Kauffman Stadium.

He married Kay Casey in Miami, Okla., and they remained married for the next 50 years. They moved to the Boston, Mo. area for a couple of years before buying their home in Golden City. He worked for Kaufman Construction on many jobs and then worked as a foreman and did electrical maintenance for O’Sullivan Industries for almost 30 years. When O’Sullivan closed, he became a self-employed electrician.

His family adored him as much as he did them and his grandchildren were the biggest joy of his life.
