LAMAR- A memorial service will be held at a later date for George W Baker, 80, Lamar, who died Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

Survivors include two sons, Dave Baker and wife Kristi, Winner, SD and Brad Baker and wife Cris, Mocksville, NC; four grandchildren, Bailey Baker and Dalton Baker, both from Winner, SD and Christopher "Bubba" Shaw and Sara Woolsey, both of Mocksville, NC; six great-grandchildren, Caleigh, Leyna, Caleb, Nalea, Alivia and Inara; three brothers, Daniel Baker and wife Deb, Rapid City, SD, Mike Baker, Midwest City, Okla. and Foster Baker, Iowa; one sister, Carol Medlin, Lamar; a sister-in-law, Shirley Baker, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Linda Gillen and husband Gary, Golden City; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; a large extended family and a multitude of friends at the Lamar Elks Lodge and communities of Lamar and Golden City.

He was preceded in death by his wife Elaine in 2003; a sister, Maxine Schell and a brother-in-law, Roger Schell; a brother, Stan Baker and a sister-in-law, Connie Baker.

Mr. Baker was raised and attended grade school in Kenoma and graduated from Golden City High School in 1959. He married Anne “Elaine” Fanning on March 10, 1963, in Golden City and to this union two sons were born, David and Bradley.

He was self-employed with over 25 years of diverse and progressive experience in systems design, analysis and programming, with 15 years of independent consulting/contracting with five major corporations including R.J. Reynolds, Western Electric, AT&T, Wachovia Bank, Forsyth Memorial Hospital and DST Systems prior to his retirement and he will be forever remembered for his love of family and country. Mr. Baker enjoyed attending family reunions, was an educated advocate of the US Constitution and a loyal fan of the KC Royals and KC Chiefs.
