LAMAR- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home for James Arthur Shipley, 80, Lamar, who died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021, in Springfield. Burial will follow at 3 p.m., in Greenlawn Cemetery, near Columbus, Kan.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m.

Contributions may be made payable to Lamar Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Shipley; his four sons, Scott Shipley, Stephen Shipley, Shawn Shipley and Mike Shipley; his four daughters, Jackie Scott, Sherry Barber, Jodie Barker and Melody Shipley; his many grandchildren, including Stella Shipley and Benson Shipley; one brother, John Shipley and one sister, Claudia Hennessey. He loved his family, his church and his Lord.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Brobst and a son, J.B. Shipley.

Mr. Shipley was born March 2, 1941, in Carmi, Ill., to Claude Arthur and Wilma June (Endecott) Shipley. He married Barbara Sue Petersen on Sept. 5, 1980, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was the pastor at the Lamar Living Hope Church of the Nazarene in Lamar. He received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Christian Theology from Western Baptist Bible College in Kansas City, Mo. and his Master of Theology degree, as well as his Doctorate of Theology from Andersonville Bible Seminary in Camilla, Ga. He was ordained as an Elder in the Church of the Nazarene on July 22, 1999, in Springfield.
