LEE’S SUMMIT- Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Longview Christian Church for D. Juanita Alumbuagh, 94, Lee’s Summit, who died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021, at John Knox Village. Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 27, at Longview Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her two sons, Craig Alumbaugh and wife Mary Beth and Kevin Alumbaugh and wife Liz; a sister, Bonnie Tesh and husband Dick and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and her husband, Chester “Chet” Alumbaugh.
Mrs. Alumbaugh was born Jan. 28, 1927, in Lamar, to Roy and Ruth Esther (Gilmore) Casey. She started teaching in a one room schoolhouse for grades first through seventh at the age of 17. She attended Missouri State Teaching College in the summer to complete her teaching certificate.
She loved playing cards, especially Pitch or Rummy, reading, doing Crosswords and cooking and baking: pies, German Chocolate Cake for her son Craig and her boys loved her cheesy potatoes. She had been a Den Mother for her boys’ Cub Scout troops and “adopted” all their friends when they were growing up. She loved telling stories about her boys and always had a positive disposition.
