LONA “LONNIE’ MAE CRAIN

LAMAR- A viewing will be held Wednesday and Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home during normal business hours for Lona “Lonnie” Mae Crain, 95, Lamar, who died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at Truman Healthcare in Lamar.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Contributions are suggested and made payable to the Barton County Senior Citizens Center, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include one son, Robert “Bob” Crain, Falls Church, VA; one daughter, Lisa Crain Bergstrom, Hillsborough, NN.J.; three grandchildren, Erica Bukovac, Timothy Bergstrom and Benjamin Bergstrom and one sister, Nedra Fay Divine, Lamar.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Jesse Albert White.

Mrs. Crain was born Sept. 1, 1926, in Lamar, to Rector “Rex” Lee White and Leona Belle (Hartley) White. She married Carl Wendell Crain on May 29, 1955, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Soon after she graduated from high school she moved to Los Angeles, Calif. She worked for the WWII effort in the aircraft industry in several roles such as a parts runner, clerk and accountant. She was selected to appear in a war bond promotional short film with The Marx Brothers. After the war she used her accounting skills to work in a bank.

Once she was married she embraced being a loving wife and mother who was focused on healthy living, homemade food, family events. She managed the household finances and was active at church. She took leading roles in school and other children's activities such as Campfire Girls and boy's outdoor groups, as well as serving as treasurer of the local PTA. She was an excellent sewer, providing many exceptional outfits and costumes for the family.

She was a member of the "Red Hat Society" and the "Blue Hatter Society". She enjoyed reading, sewing and volunteering at church.
