BILLIE GENE EDGE

LAMAR- A private family service will be held for Billie Gene Edge, 94, Lamar, who died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2022, at Cox Barton county Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are under the direction of Daniel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to The William Syndrome Association or the Barton County Memorial Park, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son, Larry and his wife Robbie and three granddaughters, Shawna Phipps and husband Bert, Sara Cawyer and husband Danny and Tara Littlejohn and husband Bob. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; Carlee Phipps, Brianna Vinson and husband Nathanael, Tanner Phipps and wife Darrah, Payton Littlejohn, Laney Cawyer, Ellie Cawyer, Koen Littlejohn and Macey Cawyer.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty; his brother, Kenny Edge and a sister, Sue Hickman.

Mr. Edge was born July 26, 1927, in Springfield, to Benjamin and Laura (Miller) Edge. He was raised in Springfield. He met the love of his life, Betty Louise Poole, and they were married on Jan. 21, 1949. They had one child, Larry Gene Edge.

Before he was married, Mr. Edge joined the United States Navy on June 22, 1945. He served as a Seaman First Class on the US Ludlow. He took great pride in his service to his country and felt it was his honor to do so. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on July 31, 1946.

He worked for the Springfield Public School District in the maintenance department, retiring in 1980. He was a wonderful carpenter and cabinet maker, doing many odd jobs for family and friends in their homes. He and his wife Betty moved to Lamar to be close to their son and his family in 2009.

He was a long standing member of Pythian Avenue Baptist Church in Springfield.
