MAMMOTH SPRINGS, Ark.-Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Mo. for Connie Vance Pierson, 84, Mammoth Springs, who died Monday, March 30, 2015, in Thayer, Mo..

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Pierson, of the home; three children, Lisa Shatzer, Kalona, Iowa, Van Pierson and wife Karla, Atalissa, Iowa and Jonathan Pierson, Belleville, Ill.; three grandchildren, Amber, Davin and Carlos; a great-grandchild, Gideon; a sister-in-law, Ima Jean Pierson, Lamar, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Orris Pierson, Doral Pierson, Roy Pierson, Dale Lloyd Pierson and Russell Pierson and one sister, Phyllis Pierson.

Mr. Pierson was born April 26, 1930, at Prosser, Neb., to John and Mary Pierson. He was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring after 20 years of service. After retirement he was employed as an Orthopedic Technician at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa for 22 years.

He enjoyed fishing gardening and bowling. He was a member of bowling leagues, both in Iowa City, Iowa and in Thayer, Mo. He was deeply devoted to his family and will truly be missed by his family, friends and the community in which he lived.

While residing in Lamar he was known as George at the local pool hall, where the building was torn down.

He married Vivian Platts on Oct. 20, 1965, in Oronogo, Mo.
