JOAN DORIS ENGLE

LIBERAL- Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, Mo., for Joan Doris Engle, 79, Liberal, who died Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg, Kan. Pastor Ray Adams will officiate. Burial will be in Moore Cemetery in Nevada, Mo.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Baptist Church, in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include three children, Lonnie Joe Engle and wife Joyce, Liberal, Jonie Ray Engle and wife Tammy, Liberal and Lona Linn Engle, Jefferson City; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Schooley, Sr., Nevada, Mo. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie; one son, Ronnie; two brothers, Charles Brown and Donald James “Jim” Brown, Sr. and two sisters, Patricia Periman and Mary Dagley.

Mrs. Engle was born June 24, 1942, in Nevada, Mo., to Lawrence and Dora (James) Rackley. She married Lonnie Engle on April 2, 1961, in Nevada, Mo. He died in 2010.

Mrs. Engle was raised in Walker, Nevada, Mo. and Sheldon, and was a 1960 graduate of Walker High School. She lived in Hume for a number of years and had resided in Liberal for the past 40 years. She was a member of the Christian Church of Liberal. She enjoyed crocheting and taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
