Kseniia Ponomarova, a FLEX exchange student from Ukraine, was the guest speaker at the Lamar Rotary Club on Tuesday, April 12, 12 noon, at Nathan’s Place. Her host parents are Chris and Becci Jones. Kseniia is from a town in Ukraine that is very near the Russian border and has a father and brother both serving in the military. She gave an extremely heart rendering report on her country, along with its dress, beliefs, rites, foods and several accomplishments that it is known for. Slides were shown of what once was; however, unfortunately much of it is no longer, but the Ukrainians have a solid resolve to rebuild and being the proud people that they are, they will get it accomplished. Kseniia is currently planning to stay in the states as it is too hostile in her home country and she has already begun applying to colleges in the United States.
