Cheyanne Porter Dighero was the first child to complete the Barton County Library 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. As the title of the program suggests, in order for Dighero to complete it she had to read 1000 books before entering kindergarten. According to the national program's website, its mission is to "provide a simple, innovative yet fun approach to establishing strong early literacy skills. We help young children gain the confidence necessary to become strong readers." Lamar has been offering the program since 2020. Cheyanne is pictured with children’s librarian Heidi Lanz.
