Jordan Wood, an artist that suffers with double vision, center, created these amazing paintings of Cpl. Ben Cooper and Office Jake Reed, two officers from the Joplin Police Department that were victims of a suspect they were attempting to apprehend on March 8 of this year. Tron Peterson with Peterson Family Ministries/Lodge of Hope, had Wood paint the two in recognition and appreciation of the lives they gave. Their families were on hand for the Salute to First Responders held Saturday, Aug. 20, at the lodge. The guest speaker for the day was Officer Rick Hirshey, who was wounded when the suspect they were attempting to apprehend shot him through his patrol car window. Hirshey is now a school resource officer for Joplin. Also pictured is Mark Priebe, who on June 9, 2020 was rammed by an SUV outside police headquarters in Springfield, leaving him paralyzed. Priebe is pictured with his family, along with his brother, Kurt, who is a member of the Springfield Fire Department. Be sure to watch for the full story in the next edition of the Lamar Democrat.
