DOROTHY VANGILDER

CARTHAGE- At her request, cremation and private family services will be held at a later date for Dorothy Mildred VanGilder, 90, Carthage, who died Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, at St. Luke’s Nursing Center in Carthage.
Arrangements were under the direction of Knell Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one’s choice in care of the mortuary.
Survivors include three sons, David VanGilder, Oceanside, Calif., Mark VanGilder and wife Janet, Hemet, Calif. and Clay VanGilder and wife Wendy, Carthage; six grandchildren, Keith VanGilder, Kelley Szulakiewicz, Michelle Smith, Kris VanGilder, Cassandra Holliday and Jason VanGilder; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and two sisters, Marjorie Welton, Carthage and Vonna Ralston, Carthage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a son, Gary VanGilder and a brother, Walter Havens.
Mrs. VanGilder was born Aug. 14, 1932, in Butler, to Herbert and Bina (West) Havens. She graduated from Lamar High School with the class of 1950. She married Charles VanGilder on Nov. 17, 1950, in Lamar. He preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2003.
Mrs. VanGilder worked as a customer service manager for Mobil Com in Santa Ana, Calif. She attended the First Christian Church of Carthage after moving back to Missouri in 1992. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing cards. She adored her sisters, but most of all spending time with her family.
