LAMAR- Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Konantz Warden Funeral Home for Carl Arthur Pennell, 63, Lamar, who died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife Renee; son Patrick Pennell and Caroline Jones, rural Greenfield; grandsons Tameron Pennell and Zander Brayfield; siblings Linda Strong and husband John, Newport and Harry Pennell, Newport and mother-in-law Mary Ann Higgins, Lamar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Ravin Pennell and infant siblings Darrell and Bonnie.

Mr. Pennell was born Jan. 8, 1959, in Lamar, to Betty (Sparks) and Loyd Pennell. He grew up in Lamar and Golden City and on August 14, 1980, he married the love of his life, Mary “Renee” Higgins at Newport Church.

He spent his life caring for people. After he left school he took care of Chan and Olive Smith, an elderly couple which began his career as a caregiver He also worked different cleaning jobs in his life at locations including an automotive garage and the bowling alley before he went to work at the Candy Cane Inn. His caregiving continued as a CNA as he lovingly cared for people at nursing homes including Dade County Nursing Home in Greenfield, Truman Health and Rehab in Lamar and St. Luke's in Carthage.

Mr. Pennell was a dedicated family man who lovingly provided and cared for his family. He was an excellent cook who specialized in comfort food and enjoyed baking cakes. He liked shopping, especially when he was looking for a bargain, which he usually found. He collected lots of nick knacks and he loved all types of chickens. He also enjoyed driving around in his car and visiting people. He always kept a pot of coffee going and was ready for a visit.
