HELEN RENEE HORTON

GOLDEN CITY- Remains were cremated and the family has decided on a private burial at a later date for Helen Renee (Beattie) Horton, 71, Golden City, who died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, at Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.
Survivors include her husband Dennis, of the home; one sister, Katherine Carrell and husband Wayne, Union Star; a brother in-law, Gene Jones, Commerce, Texas; sister in-laws Velma Horton and Linda Brunner Horton, Golden City; daughters Dawn Heath and husband Brian and Samantha McCulley, Golden City; Lesia Wagner, Springfield and Leana Peterson, Lamar and son, Jay Horton, Nixa; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and multiple nieces and nephews. She will be missed by family, friends and coworkers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sherrill Beattie and one sister, Deanna Jones.
Mrs. Horton was born Aug. 31, 1951, in Union Star, to John and Opal (Giffin) Beattie. She grew up around the Union Star area and married her first husband. After divorcing she and her two young daughters moved to Golden City in 1973 to be closer to her parents. She married Dennis V. Horton on Dec. 11, 1976. She welcomed and raised his daughter Lesia, along with her own two daughters, Dawn and Samantha. Together, the couple had two more children, Jay and Leana.
Mrs. Horton remained in the Golden City area working for local companies Big Smith and O'Sullivan Industries. She retired from Cox Barton County Hospital, but continued her employment there in housekeeping until her sudden illness.
