MARY ELAINE SMITH

JASPER- Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Weng Funeral Chapel for Mary Elaine Cooper Smith, 94, who died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenlawn Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Smith and wife Audrey, Harrisonville and David Smith, Jasper; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim on April 17, 1981; son, Perry on Nov. 17, 2015; her sister and three brothers.

Mrs. Smith was born June 14, 1928, in Waverly, to William Berlin “Jack” Cooper and Dixie Belle Wilson Cooper. She was the fourth child in a family of five children.

She married Jim Smith of Southwest City on Nov. 28, 1954, in Oak Grove, where her parents resided. To this marriage came three sons, John Perry Smith, Ronald Clinton Smith and David Bruce Smith.

Mrs. Smith lived a wonderful life with her family and loads of friends. Besides being a mother, sister and running a household for her family, she was the secretary treasurer of Greenlawn Cemetery for a number of years. She was also a life member of the Jasper American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Jasper Methodist Church.
