After receiving a phone call Friday evening, July 14, regarding an errant sunflower that had to be at least 12 feet tall that was growing in the backyard oasis of Judy Gastel, I traveled to her house to see this massive spectacle for myself. There were worries that the plant might not survive the impending storm and despite the 38.5 mph wind speed and downpour that occurred, the sunflower survived and still stands tall. The sunflower is in a raised garden bed and dwarfs a six foot iron arbor that sits beside it.
