LELAND IRA SELVEY, JR.
SARASOTA, Fla.- A military service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at Sarasota National Cemetery for Leland Ira Selvey, Jr., 79, who died Monday, July 17, 2023. This service will be followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m., at Church of the Palms in Sarasota.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, are recommended to Neuro Challenge Foundation for Parkinson’s or Church of the Palms.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, Laura; sisters, Betty Ann and Saralu; niece, Heather; uncle, Joe Bloomer and many cousins.
Mr. Selvey was born Oct. 21, 1943, in Springfield, Mo., to Leland Selvey, Sr. and Marguerite Selvey. He grew up in Lamar, Mo. with his two younger sisters, Betty Ann and Saralu. After graduating Lamar High School in 1961, he completed his bachelor’s degree in 1965 at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. He joined the Air Force following college and was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska for four years.
He received his MBA at the University of Arkansas and began a career in healthcare. Working at Shared Medical Systems, he met Carol Rivera and they married in 1986. Their one child, Laura, was born in 1988 in Metairie, La. He retired early and was a stay-at-home dad, supporting Laura in school and extracurricular activities. He was a gifted videographer and an avid baseball fan.
